What an iconic comedy! This particular show was a challenge in physicality, facial expression, and timing. The rehearsal process for Noises Off was a difficult one, since we were limited to the studio theatre for blocking in a show that was heavily reliant on doors and stairs, especially in the second act where at least half an hour of action is told in silence. This was a challenge in ensemble unity, since so much of the blocking depended on the placement of the other actors. Often frustrating at times, however, so it also tested our unified patience.

My role in this was Poppy, the assistant stage manager. Set in England, I had no problem with the British accent (and one of my only accents I am confident in), and I had easy memorization since it was fewer lines. The biggest obstacle then, other than the absolute necessary timing, was saying my lines in the right places. Poppy often interjected here and there after long bits of dialogue, so I had to pay careful attention to what was going on at all times.

Noises Off was a giant undertaking, and I am incredibly proud that the cast got it together in the short amount of time that we did have. I would most definitely do this show again, but would love to be a different character. Poppy was a good part, but I never had the challenge of running up and down the stairs, shutting the doors, learning three different variations of the same lines for the three acts, and did not work much with the several props. However, because of this show, I have improved with my comedic timing and ability to react quickly to things going awry on stage. Plus, the show was a hit!
