Statement of Assessment

Communication is a multi-faceted, shared experience between you as an individual and the outside world through situational and relational dialectics, along with nonverbal cues and visual text. It is creating and interpreting as a messenger or a receiver. It happens everyday, and all of the time.

Pittsburg State Comm Department is an "umbrella department", which is a huge advantage not only for the professional field, but for my own personal development. As a comm major, I have been given the invaluable skills to observe, analyze, and adapt to any given situation I encounter in society. By being a part of the umbrella, I not only learned theatrical skills, but skills in journalism, broadcasting, advertising, and public relations. The opportunities for me are endless.

I am a positive representative for the Department of Communication because I have been given the proper tools to apply theories to my personal and work ethic, in order to come to a positive solution to any problem that may arise. The skills I have learned through my higher education at the university will undoubtedly come into play when I break out into the professional industry.
